Pilgrimage to Asissi Contemplative Yoga Retreat
June 7-16, 2020
We are looking forward to next June 7-16, 2020 for our first ever Pilgrimage Contemplative Yoga Retreat in Assisi! Yes, the perfect Villa in the hills of Umbria will host our contemplative retreat as we explore and touch the sacred heart of the spirit of Saint Francis.
We have reserved Villa Irene, a classic three-story villa with 10 rooms, 6 bathrooms, a kitchen, living room, dining room and private pool on the campus of Borgio di Pomaia, a resort in Pomaia, Italy with special ties to the Lama Tsong Khapa Buddhist Institute just up the road.
Our Villa will be our home base for 7 days and 7 nights and as part of its use we will also have access to a beautiful yoga and meditation hall with views of the Tuscan countryside and the Mediterranean Sea.
Our retreat will begin on Saturday evening June 3. Each day there will be morning and evening yoga and meditation sessions with optional afternoon sessions.
During the mid-day you will be free to explore the surrounding countryside on foot: there are many quiet country roads, trails, wineries, and villages within walking distance.
There are also plenty of optional day excursions to Pisa, Florence, Siena, Lucca, Rosignano and others in Tuscany, all of which are within 90 minutes of Villa Irene.
The cost for the 7 day and 7 night retreat is $1550 for triple occupancy, $1950 for double and $2350 for single occupancy. Please specify if you would like a room with two single beds or one double bed. There are also 3 rooms with one double bed and a single bed which makes for the triple occupancy option.
Cost includes 7 nights lodging, daily breakfast, 7 days of 2+ yoga/meditation sessions per day and unlimited use of the pool and yoga and meditation hall. Cost also includes transport to and from the airport and/or train stations on June 3 and June 10 in Pisa.
A non-refundable $1000 deposit will ensure your space. We will book the rooms on a first come, first served basis.
For meals not covered in the cost of the retreat there are many options. There is a lovely big kitchen in the Villa with nice markets in Pomaia, a 5 minute walk, for fresh groceries for the home cooking option. There is a restaurant on the campus of Borgo di Pomaia (of which Villa Irene is a part) serving excellent local fare and specializing in classic Italian style pizza and sea food. Prices are about the same as American, about $20 for dinner (not including wine!). Or, the Lama Tsong Khapa Buddhist Institute has a monastery cafeteria serving vegetarian lunch and dinner daily for 10 euros per meal.
Finally, the day excursions will undoubtedly include much eating in the many glorious places around Tuscany. Ah, the food in Italy!!!
The Yoga and Meditation on this retreat will emphasize "Cultivating Joy", the theme we have been exploring on yoga retreats for years. We have found that the combination of yoga and meditation for cultivating joy combined with great company in a beautiful setting makes for a truly unforgettable and transformational life experience.
There is another option we've discussed with some of you for a week-long pilgrimage on the Saint Francis of Assisi trail the week after our retreat. Stay tuned for more details about that coming soon! We hope you will join us to Cultivate some serious Joy in Italy! UPDATE: The PILGRIMAGE on the trail of St. Francis of Assisi is FULL.
